Laura Burges

Laura has been at the San Francisco Zen Center since 1975. She practiced at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center for three years and returned there for 10 years to practice during the summer and cook in the Tasssajara kitchen. Her first experience teaching kids was during a year-long period when Tassajara welcomed families to practice. Laura went on to get an elementary teaching credential and has been teaching kids since 1985. She is a practitioner of "Mindful Schools," bringing mindfulness activities to children. Laura was shuso at Green Gulch in 2000 and received lay entrustment from her teacher Eijun Linda Cutts in 2009. She lectures and leads retreats at different practice centers in Northern California with a special emphasis on work with those in 12-step recovery, and is the co-founder of the Sangha in Recovery program at San Francisco Zen Center.
